Pauli and Karl, a husband and wife team dedicated to the care and education of young children.
Pauli has been working in the field of early childhood education since 2000, and after taking a brief break decided that having her own program was where her heart really was. With the support of friends and family Pauli's Playschool became a reality in June of 2009. She holds an Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education and is currently working towards her BA in ECE Administration. She is the Lead Activist for the Northwest Region of SEIU 925, the current president of The Association of Whatcom Providers, Committee Chair for Whatcom Community Colleges ECE Advisory Committee, and a State Certified Mentor through Imagine Institute. Additionally, she is a state certified trainer offering professional development to providers, and is certified to teach first aid and CPR courses through the Red Cross. Her passion for working with young children shows through in her program and she hopes to be able to serve more children and families in the years to come.
In September of 2009 Karl joined her and the two have been working together to provide high quality childcare to families in Whatcom County. He has completed several stages of the Child Development Associate program, and is currently enrolled at Whatcom Community College working towards his AA in ECE. Beyond working with children in our program he also volunteers with the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club coaching youth basketball and t-ball. With a background in construction he has found building foundations for learning to be much more rewarding and fun. He partners with Pauli in every aspect of their program and has been helping to mentor the interns working in our program through Imagine Institute.
We seek out ECE students who are looking to gain real life experience while they are working on their education when we hire people for our program. It is important to us that the staff we hire are invested in ECE and plan to pursue a career in this field. We know that we are a step along their path, not their final destination. As that step we seek to support and encourage our staff while they are with us, knowing that when they do finally move on they will carry into the world a love and dedication to support more children and families in our community. While we do not hire often, as we are very lucky to have staff stay with us for long periods of time, we are always accepting applications to have on file in the event we are in need of additional staff.

Our Classroom
After years of development and change we are thrilled with our current classroom configuration. The purpose and forethought are there with regards to furniture layout, keeping the materials fresh new and rotated. Also, having those areas of play defined really allows the children to know the expectations of what toys belong in those areas without confusion. It's fun to watch the children engage in the classroom and really be able to flow from one activity to another and have fun learning and interacting with their peers
